Brad Weiss, '00 MA Communication Studies, who uses the name Brad Carson for professional purposes, was selected as one of the Top 20 Mid-Market Program Directors in America by a panel of media executives assembled by Barrett Sports Media. Carson's station, 92.9 FM ESPN/WMFS-Memphis, was selected as a Top 20 Mid-Market Sports Radio Station in America by that same panel. From 1998 through 2000, he was an on-air DJ for Mix 94.1 in Las Vegas using the name "Brad Kelly" and has been on air in Illinois; Atlantic City, New Jersey; and Memphis, Tennessee. He currently voicetracks radio shows in Indianapolis and Madison, Wisconsin, for Entercom-Radio. He and and his wife, Stacy, live in Germantown, Tennessee, with their son, Jake.

Michael J. Plinski, '95 BS and ‘98 MS Engineering - Mechanical Engineering, is the facility representative for the U.S. Department of Energy at the National Critical Experiments Research Center located in the Device Assembly Facility, Nevada National Security Site (NNSS). One of the projects that he oversees is Kilopower Reactor Using Stirling Technology (KRUSTY). This NASA project is a near-term technology effort to develop preliminary concepts and technologies that could be used for an affordable fission nuclear power system to enable long-duration stays on planetary surfaces. Also, he volunteers as assistant leader for the two Shadow Ridge High School Air Force Junior ROTC CyberPatriot teams in their cyber security competitions. The teams completed this season at Platinum level in the state round. They were first- and second-place for service teams in Nevada. President of the College of Engineering Alumni Board, he lives in North Las Vegas.  

Angel Salinas Cantú, '15 BS Hotel Administration, is the author of The Divorce Era. He says he reveals in the book the secrets that no man in his right mind would dare to tell his partner, nor his closest friends. His intention is to explain how men think and why men act the way they do so that with this precious information women know how to face the most common challenges in marriage to avoid the new norm — divorce. The book is available from Amazon. Apart from cultivating intellectually at UNLV, he says he used "Sin City" for his own social experiment. Having worked at some of the best and most famous clubs and restaurants, he studied men from around the world and observed how they behaved when they thought nobody was watching.  

George Molnar, '12 MS Crisis and Emergency Management, has relocated to Washington, D.C., to lead the PBS WARN Project, which provides public alert and warning and emergency communications support through public television.

Shari Netzel, '89 BSBA - Marketing, has been named director of development and alumni relations for the UNR School of Medicine. She will support the school through efforts to generate private philanthropic support for the institution. She will lead major and annual gift campaigns, donor relations, foundation and corporate relations, and planned giving as well as assist with major donor-related events. She also will oversee scholarship support programs and cultivate opportunities to keep alumni engaged and connected to their alma mater. Netzel brings more than 20 years of higher education and health care development experience to the medical school. She is involved in professional organizations, including serving as past board president for the Association of Fundraising Professionals, where she was named "Fundraising Professional of the Year" in 2015; serving as a board member of the Planned Giving Roundtable of Northern Nevada; and being a member of the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy. Her community involvement has included supporting the Children's Miracle Network, the Nevada Women's Fund, and the Spanish Spring High School Athletics Booster Club.  

Sarah "Sarita" Cabrera, '81 BA Communication Studies, is vice president/managing broker of Watson Realty Corp.'s Longwood office in the North Orlando area of Florida. This is the fifth brokerage that Sarita has managed or owned in the past 15 years. Prior to launching her successful real estate career, she co-owned a CRM company in Tampa, Florida, and also worked for more than 13 years in communications and marketing for Bloomberg BNA (formerly known as the Bureau of National Affairs) in Washington, D.C. She says her degree and coursework at UNLV in communications, public relations, business, marketing, and market research have been instrumental in her success. Her interests include traveling nationally and internationally, attending performing arts programs, and taking classes and seminars. She and her college student son, Ian Lage, live in Oviedo.

Bret Meich,  '08 JD, has been promoted to counsel at Downey Brand as of Jan. 1. From his base in Downey Brand’s Reno office, he works in both Nevada and California, utilizing his business and government background to offer strategies and tactics that effectively resolve complex commercial and intellectual property disputes, and assists clients with governmental and regulatory matters. He earned his bachelor's degree at Georgetown University.

Amanda Hurst Gordon, '09 BA Sociology, '11 MA Criminal Justice, recently was hired as the board and volunteer relations coordinator in UNLV's ​office of alumni engagement & annual giving.

Thomas Cahill, '06 Master of Education - Special Education, is an intervention specialist at Tiffin Columbian High School in Tiffin, Ohio. Grandchildren, camping, farming, and golf are his hobbies. He lives in Galion.

Melissa J. Burns, '02 BA Communication Studies, works as a cyber security engineer at CERT, a division of the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. In 2017, she earned a master's degree in information systems management from Carnegie Mellon. From 2010-13 she served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Vanuatu. She lives in Pittsburgh.

Scott Murray, '97 MA Ethics & Policy Studies, has been promoted to senior vice president for strategic accounts at Babel Street, the leading open source collection and analysis company in the United States. He oversees all international and U.S. Air Force accounts. He lives in Loudon, Tennessee.

Cheryl Walker Schreiner,  '84 BS Hotel Administration, is regional vice president of HelmsBriscoe, a company she joined in 1999. Her extensive 30-year career in the hospitality industry includes experience with the Sheraton and Marriott Corporations.  A member of the North Florida chapter of Meeting Professionals International, she has held various board positions, including director of leadership, diversity and membership chair, and president in 2007 and 2008. As a member of the HelmsBriscoe leadership team, she mentors new associates with HelmsBriscoe, fostering a team of more than 30 associates in the Florida region. Schreiner, who has an MBA from Nova Southeastern University, has earned the HelmsBriscoe President’s Club Award consistently since 2002 and also has received master’s club status. In 2005, she was named as Top Producer for ResourceOne, HelmsBriscoe’s full-service meeting management firm, and in 2010 she was honored as the Top Cruise Producer. In 2015, she earned the certified meeting professional designation. In 2017, she completed her certified meeting manager designation. Married with two children, she owns a famous show dog, Jack, an English springer spaniel. Her hobbies include skiing, tennis, showing dogs, and traveling. The family lives in Jacksonville, Florida.
