The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning awards recognize individuals who have achieved excellence in the scholarship of teaching and learning as demonstrated through research that focuses on evidence-based teaching practices that promote UNLV students’ learning. The award recipient receives a $2,000 award and will be recognized at the UNLV Academic Achievement Awards Ceremony every spring semester.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be members of the UNLV teaching community with at least three years of teaching experience prior to the date of nomination.
  • Previous winners may reapply once five years have elapsed from their last award.
  • Note: This is not a teaching award, but an award to recognize outstanding scholarship on teaching and learning.

Applications are due before 5:00pm on Friday, February 23, 2024.

  • A 250-300 word statement about your scholarship that addresses the following:
    • What was the research question you pursued regarding teaching and learning, and what motivated you to pursue it?
    • How has engaging in the scholarship of teaching and learning impacted your teaching?
    • Future directions - what are your goals for disseminating research on teaching and learning going forward?
    • What is the impact of your scholarship on teaching and learning in the university and/or in your discipline?
  • Up to three select examples of the candidate’s work. These should be primarily articles or book chapters on the topic of teaching and learning, either discipline-specific or higher education focused. Should meet some or all of the selection criteria listed below.

Selection Criteria

Evaluators will be judging the application based on the following criteria:

  1. Engages in the systematic examination of issues about student learning and instructional conditions that promote learning,
  2. Demonstrates use of appropriate methods for investigating and evaluating the impact of teaching practices on student learning,
  3. Advances the state of research and knowledge about teaching and learning in the field,
  4. demonstrates public, peer reviewed and critiqued scholarship, and dissemination of findings, and
  5. Is recognized by students and/or colleagues/has made an impact on the university or the discipline.
