Volunteers are needed this Saturday, March 19, from 9 a.m. to noon, to help restore the habitat of the endangered Moapa Dace and several other native species at the Moapa Valley National Wildlife Refuge.
Volunteers will help restore habitat at the refuge by removing invasive species of plants that have modified the native habitat that the dace, a small minnow-like fish, needs to survive. Participants will be working in the warm waters of the Muddy River and will be required to bring cotton work gloves, old clothes and shoes.
Participants must register by March 18 with the Interagency Volunteer Program at UNLV's Public Lands Initiative by calling 895-4890 or by signing up online at . Because the refuge is currently under reconstruction and not yet open to the public, volunteers will carpool to the worksite.
For more information, call Donna Grady, program manager for the Interagency Volunteer Program, at 895-4890.
