Get Outdoors Nevada, an interagency volunteer program coordinated by the UNLV Public Lands Initiative, is seeking volunteers for the Great American Clean-Up day at Lake Mead National Recreation Area on March 5, from 8:30 a.m. to noon, beginning in the upper parking lot area at Lake Mead Marina.
The Keep America Beautiful, Great American Clean-Up is an annual event in which volunteers clear away the debris that has accumulated over the winter on the shorelines and beaches of Lake Mead.
This year's cleanup is the first event sponsored by Get Outdoors Nevada, a partnership of the Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and U.S. Forest Service. The partnership will help federal agencies in Southern Nevada communicate more effectively with the public about volunteer opportunities on public lands in Southern Nevada, and UNLV will help match volunteer interests with agency needs, keeping the community informed about upcoming events and potential volunteer opportunities.
Volunteers for the event are asked to bring a hat, gloves and sunscreen. A barbeque lunch will be served at the completion of the cleanup.
