"Fast Food, Fast Money: McDonaldization and its Discontents" will be the topic when social theorist George Ritzer speaks at UNLV on March 3.
Ritzer's talk, which is sponsored by the sociology department, is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Classroom Building Complex, Room A-112. This free event is open to the public.
A sociology professor at the University of Maryland, Ritzer is the author of the popular text The McDonaldization of Society. His primary areas of interest are sociological theory and the sociology of consumption.
Ritzer also has written a number of other widely-translated books, including Postmodern Social Theory. Currently, he is working on a book titled Fantastic Cages, which deals with new means of consumption.
He has held the UNESCO chair in social theory at the Russian Academy of Sciences and a Fulbright-Hays fellowship.
