Students from UNLV's Greenspun College of Urban Affair's School of Social Work contributed more than 62,000 hours to local human services agencies in 2001, according to Esther Langston, school director.
"The application of theory to practice through community outreach is one of the major goals of UNLV's School of Social Work," Langston said.
Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in social work classes have an opportunity to receive hands-on training by working in unpaid internships with human services organizations in Las Vegas, Clark County, and southwestern Utah.
"Students often surpass their required hours, which further enhances the university's relationship with its surrounding community and strengthens its partnerships," Langston said.
