WHO: Thirty-two outstanding students from Nevada's colleges and universities will join prominent women in Nevada politics, business, law, community activism, and education.
WHAT: A special reception celebrating the third annual National Education for Women's (NEW) Leadership Nevada program, a series of workshops and panel discussions designed to build and support young women's civic leadership and education.
WHEN: Tuesday, June 14, in the Blasco Events Wing of the Foundations Building at UNLV (Cottage Grove & Maryland Pkwy). A reception and dinner are scheduled from 5-7 p.m. and will be followed by the keynote address from former Nevada Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa.
WHY: NEW Leadership Nevada is a six day program sponsored by the Women's Research Institute of Nevada that is designed to provide the state's female college students with an opportunity to network with speakers and fellow students and explore internship and job opportunities. Students will also have the opportunity to take on a project in their community.
The NEW Leadership Institute was started in 1991 at Rutgers University to address the need for stronger female voices in the workplace and in community leadership. The program currently runs in 12 schools throughout the nation, with UNLV the only participating institution in the Southwest. This year's program will be held June 13-18.
**NOTE**Participating students, program alumni and event organizers will be on hand and available for interviews. Area leaders scheduled to attend include Nevada Senator Dina Titus, Assemblywomen Kathy McClain and Valerie Weber, and Nevada Supreme Court Justice Michael Douglas.
