U.S. News & World Report ranked the UNLV Boyd School of Law's dispute resolution and legal writing programs among the top 10 in the nation, according to data released today. The rankings were included in the publication's 2013 edition of the nation's best graduate schools and specialty programs.
The law school also was ranked 76 out of 195 accredited law schools, securing its position as one of the country's top 100 law schools for the sixth consecutive year.
"Our quality program and the hard work of our faculty and staff in building that program, is reflected in the rankings," said John Valery White, dean of the law school.
The Boyd School of Law achieved top placement in the following categories:
- The Lawyering Process Program was tied for third among top legal writing programs, moving up one spot from last year. The program emphasizes professionalism and the relationship between legal analysis and lawyering skills, including legal writing, research, oral advocacy, client interviewing, counseling and negotiation.
- The Saltman Center for Conflict Resolution was ranked 10th among the top programs in dispute resolution. The Saltman Center has been ranked in the top 10 for the past four years.
- Among part-time law programs, UNLV's law school was ranked 22nd out of 85 accredited law schools, climbing up four spots from last year. Fewer than half of the country's law schools offer part-time programs, which generally take four years to complete.
The Boyd School of Law and Legal Education Programs
The William S. Boyd School of Law has more than 450 students and offers three juris doctor degree programs: a full-time day program, a part-time day program and a part-time evening program. The school also offers three dual degree programs: a J.D./MBA, a J.D./M.S.W. and a J.D./Ph.D. It is fully accredited by the American Bar Association and a member of the American Association of Law Schools - accomplishments it achieved in record time.

The Lawyering Process program emphasizes professionalism and prepares students to enter the workforce proficient in the key language skills of legal practice.
Saltman Center for Conflict Resolution
Established in 2003, the Saltman Center for Conflict Resolution is dedicated to advancing education in the field of alternative dispute resolution and provides a venue for advanced study of the nature of conflict and the methods through which conflicts may be resolved. The Center received the prestigious Ninth Circuit ADR Education Award in 2008.
