A clinic designed to assist children who have difficulty attending school or remaining in class the entire day will once again be available at UNLV beginning Sept. 5.
The Child School Refusal and Anxiety Disorders Clinic provides assessment and treatment for youths ages 5 through 15. Fees are based on each family's ability to pay.
The difficulty the youths experience with school can be the result of specific fears, general anxiety, social anxiety, separation or attention-seeking problems, or family problems, said Christopher Kearney, the associate professor of clinical child psychology who serves as clinic director.
Parents interested in learning more about the clinic or scheduling an appointment should contact Kearney at 895-0183.
The assessment procedure consists of interviews and questionnaires and usually lasts one to two hours. Treatment options typically are discussed after an initial evaluation of the information.
