The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Foundation is recognizing Officers Jacob Noriega and Ty Vesperas for their heroic actions in coming to the aid of the fourth UNLV shooting victim on December 6.

Noriega and Vesperas were among the first responders to arrive at UNLV campus following reports of gunfire. Both officers encountered a shooting victim leaving Beam Hall where the deadly shooting took place. The victim was bleeding and in need of medical help.

UNLV has a “Drive Up, Drop Off” recycling site on its campus, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

The University of Nevada Las Vegas’ School of Dental Medicine is changing lives one smile at a time by providing affordable dental care to the Las Vegas community. Residents who have no insurance and need dental care can get it at the university for a fraction of the price.

In a Jan. 12 letter to students posted on UNLV’s website, UNLV President Keith Whitfield said that he had established a Committee on Campus Security and Safety to “review existing security measures and develop and implement a comprehensive safety infrastructure plan.” He also revealed that extra security will be present on campus in the form of university police as well as a private security firm.

Californians relocating to the Las Vegas Valley and Nevada as a whole has been a trend going back since the inception of the state itself in the 1800s. Transplants from the Golden State consistently make up roughly 30 percent of all new residents to the Silver State, according to multiple sources including U.S. Census data and UNLV population research reports.

As part of the university's Rebel Recovery Program, a Tribal Nations Healing Ceremony was held at the Alumni Amphitheater this afternoon.

The Rebel Recovery Program will offer several scheduled and pop-up mental health events.

On Tuesday, students returned to campus for the first time since a deadly December 2023 shooting.
