Stefani Relles (Educational Psychology and Higher Education) and Charles Burmeister (Film) are involved in a documentary film project, "Mattering in the Margins: Skateboarders’ Stories of Mental Health Challenges and Opportunities." The project will involve producing a documentary using cinematic methods that were developed at UNLV with funding from a 2018 Faculty Opportunity Award. These methods were developed through an interdisciplinary course that was featured in a story on cool classes.
The new project seeks to take during this current period of upheaval as racial injustice and a global pandemic resound across all corners of society. The study is designed to develop actionable suggestions for practitioner, policymaker, academic, and industry audiences serving at-promise youth.
