Drs. Larry Hon, Mohamed Ahmed, and Edward Lynch (all Dental) co-authored "Reliability of Colour and Hardness Clinical Examinations in Detecting Dentine Caries Severity: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis," which appears in the April issue of Scientific Reports – Nature. The study systematically reviewed, for the first time, the accuracy and reliability of dentine color and hardness as indicators for carious (cavity) activity. Results revealed that a hardness clinical examination is more specific and reliable than color to detect dentine carious activity. The findings will assist clinicians with their critical appraisals of patients’ treatment needs.
