Jeffrey Ebersole (Dental) co-authored “Microbiome Profiles of Ligature-Induced Periodontitis in Nonhuman Primates Across the Lifespan,” which appeared in the March issue of Infection and Immunity. The study compared the microbiome colonizing teeth during the initiation, progression, and resolution of periodontitis in nonhuman primates at different ages, and furthered understanding about the crucial interactions of the oral microbiome and host responses in periodontitis. Ebersole also co-authored “Biologic Modeling of Periodontal Disease Progression,” which appeared in the February issue of the Journal of Clinical Periodontology. The study concluded synergistic utility of baseline bacterial and inflammatory biomarkers from saliva, serum, and plaque predicts disease progression.
