Dr. Edward Lynch (Dental) co-authored “Performance and Safety of Handheld, Portable X-ray Units,” which appears in the April issue of the Journal of the Greater Houston Dental Society. The findings indicated that new hand-held radiography units were clinically acceptable, with the anticipated operator dose well below the annual occupational limits. The new method allows the use of radiographs to assess or confirm the success of treatment within an operatory, thereby increasing efficiency in patient care. The handheld, portable units can replace wall-mounted units, which reduce installation costs and simplify patient positioning.
The study’s co-authors included faculty and staff from the University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston, and the department of diagnostic and interventional imaging UTHealth McGovern Medical School.
