Ariana Garcia and Blanca Rincón (both Educational Psychology and Higher Education) on how alliance-based STEM enrichment programs broker graduate-related opportunities for students of color. Using a single case study of a Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation alliance, they found that these programs bridge social capital via interorganizational networks and how instability creates barriers to building the trust that is central to the brokerage process, thus demonstrating how students of color in STEM benefit from passive and active transmission of social capital facilitated through alliance institutions and their interorganizational network.
